Block Island

We have 2 cars scheduled for the ferry, Kevin and I are driving our vehicles and they will be used for transportation while we are on the island.

Cost:

Includes the ferry ride (reason for the price difference), and all of the meals we will eat out, except for Lunch on Friday. If your Scout wants to buy lunch on Friday, send some extra cash for that meal. 

$80 for scouts under 12 yrs old 

$90 for scouts over 12 yrs old 

Ferry:

Leave Point Judith for Block Island 8/14 @ noon

Leave Block Island for Point Judith 8/16 @ 5pm

Travel:

Meet @ Exit 61 commuter lot @ 9:20 am

Leave Madison @ 9:30 am

Return: ETA home on 8/16 will be communicated for arrival at Exit 61 commuter lot after we return to the mainland and get dinner

Meals:

Friday:

Lunch: pack a bag lunch or buy at the Old Harbor View 

Dinner - cook at campsite (hot dogs, chips, watermelon, ramen)

Saturday

Breakfast - cereal cups/granola bars/fruit

Lunch - Snack Shack at Town Beach

Dinner - Pizza at Poor People’s Pub

Sunday

Breakfast - Bagels

Lunch - TBD - it depends on where we end up on the island.

Dinner - fast food TBD

Packing:

Space is at a premium in the vehicles, so Scouts should pack lightly for this trip.

  • Tents, sleeping bag, ground pad, etc.

  • A couple changes of clothes, bathing suit.

  • Bring a pair of sneakers or hiking boots, and some form of water shoe (preferably not flip flops/sandals)

  • Towel for beach, separate towel for shower

  • sunscreen/hats/sunglasses

  • lightweight poncho or rain jacket just in case 

  • Money for souvenirs - we will visit some shops that have items for sale, and your scout may want to buy something to commemorate their trip. These items range in price, so set a budget for them. Cash, or some of these places may take apple pay etc.

Activities:

We have lots of options to explore, and we will play it a little bit by ear. There are many options for us to explore, activities over the 3 days will likely include:

  • A visit to the Abram's Animal Farm

  • Visits to the lighthouses at either end of the island

  • Hiking on some of the island's trails

  • Swimming at Fredrick J. Benson Public Beach

  • walking downtown and visiting shops

We will shower Saturday afternoon after going to the beach and before going out to dinner at Poor People’s Pub.
