Block Island 2026

Brandon Laroche

I have been camping on Block Island with the scouts at the Sandsland Scout campground for the past 3 summers.  It is always a great time. We hike, swim, and enjoy the island. I helped my dad pack the truck and then we headed to the park and ride to join the carpool. The other scouts - Carolyn and Blair - met us there. Blair rode in our truck, and Carolyn went with the Avino’s truck with Juliette, and Ava. We all drove to RI and drove onto the 12pm Ferry.

We got to Block Island around 1pm and ate lunch at a spot that was close to the ferry. We headed to the animal farm to feed the goats and look at all the animals they have there.

We were all pretty hot, so we decided to go swimming.  The water felt so nice and refreshing. We played in the sand for a bit.  After that we headed back to the campsite to figure out dinner. We decided to go to the pizza place down the street since it was starting to rain.

After that we had a fire.  The sky got clear and the stars were awesome.

The next morning, we woke up to an amazing breakfast made by Ava which was bacon and egg and cheese on a bagel.

After that we bought squid at the bait shop, rigged up our poles and went fishing at the beach. My Dad and Ava each caught a crab which was funny, but the rest of us caught nothing. After fishing we went back to the camp site for some lunch which was hot dogs over the fire. I love hotdogs over the fire.

We chilled at the site and then went to Adams Way beach where there are tide pools. We walked through the shallow water and looked for things to catch.

Blair caught a bunch of crabs and fish. After that we went to the main beach to swim. The water was so nice and clear. My Dad, Ava and I threw the bouncy water ball around in the water. We buried Blair in sand and it was so funny.

After that we packed up and showered, and it felt soooo good. We ate dinner at the poor people’s pub. I got a Nashville chicken sandwich, it was amazing. To walk off our meal and enjoy the sunset we headed over to hike the North Lighthouse. There were so many seagulls! Finally, we went back to the camp site and made a big fire.

We woke up the next morning and packed up camp into the trucks.  We ate breakfast at a bagel place and walked around town.  I bought Juliette a birthday gift and I also bought something for my mom.  We went into a lot of stores and then found a grassy hill with a lot of shade, and cows.  Sassy the cow loved licking my dad’s arm.

After that we all loaded into the vehicles and drove onto the ferry to go home.  It was a great trip and I can’t wait for next year.
